- The Modus Operandi of MCC Police

The sight of Monrovia City Police officers has become a nightmare for petit traders across the City.

Some days, they show up in pickups, and on other days, they come on foot with rattans in hand to chase and whip petit traders some of whom sell in wheel barrows, on tables or carry their wares in their hands.

The officers are also usually armed with black plastic bags stuffed in their pockets to conceal their loots or assorted items seized from petit traders under the guise of enforcing a City ordinance that prohibits traders from selling in major streets and sidewalks.

On Monday, June 1, 2026, at about 6:43pm, a Public Agenda Newspaper reporter bumped into some of the officers, two wearing the regular MCC Police uniforms, another one in an Immigration-like uniform, whiles the other from whom they took instruction, wore a white t-shirt with a cap.

“You are becoming too lenient with these sellers. Is this all what you got today”, the one in the white T-shirt and cap inquired, referring to the items in the black plastic bag.

Without noticing the presence of a journalist who was ease dropping their conversation, they were deciding how to share the confiscated items in the plastic bag rather than take them to the MCC headquarters where the owners supposed to go, pay a fine, and redeem their items.

“This is what these guys do a daily basis, robbing petit traders and even depriving the MCC needed financial resources,” on by-stander remarked.

On Sundays and holidays, MCC officers patrol the City on motor bikes and go from one Fulah Shop to another and solicit monies that they share among themselves rather than enforcing the city ordinance or ordinances that prohibit Sunday selling.

This has been the modus operandi of Monrovia City Police officers over the years.
