-Police Deputy Chief Loses Job

 Authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has relieved Deputy Commissioner for Crime Services, Johnny Dean, of his duties with immediate effect after he allegedly accepted US$10,000 in connection with an ongoing investigation into one of Liberia's largest cocaine seizures.

Inspector General, Gregory O. W. Coleman, disclosed that although Dean was not implicated in the drug trafficking operation itself, investigators found that he allegedly compromised the integrity of the investigation by providing comfort and assistance to suspects already in police custody.

 According to Coleman, Dean admitted to receiving the money and has since been interdicted, turned over to the Professional Standards Division for administrative investigation, and will face criminal investigation if evidence warrants.

The Police Inspector General stressed that no law enforcement officer will be shielded from accountability, regardless of rank or position. He announced that the Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation (Interim) has been directed to immediately assume Dean's responsibilities while investigations continue. Coleman also warned that anyone found connected to the case will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Liberian law.

Addressing the media, Coleman further revealed that the seized cocaine has an estimated street value of US$317.68 million, with its value potentially rising to nearly US$400 million after distribution. He reaffirmed the LNP's commitment to following the evidence wherever it leads, emphasizing that the investigation will proceed without fear or favor.
