IT WAS ON FRIDAY’S AFTERNOON when the Criminal Court “C” handed down a non-guilty verdict in the high profile economic sabotage case involving former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and other former officials of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration.
AFTER THE VERDICT WAS RELEASED on Friday there has been mixed reactions from the public, thereby making some Liberians to question the sincerity of the judiciary branch of the Liberian government.
SOME OF THE SKEPTICS in their confused and frustrated minds are calling for the second trial of the economic sabotage case, something that is not applicable under the criminal procedure laws because the court’s verdict by juror’s acquittal is protected under the Liberia’s double jeopardy laws.
THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE LAWS ARE clear and concise that one a returns and non-guilty verdict, the matter is legally done with and cannot be reopen.
OUR JUDICIARY SYSTEM IS THE one that we have and the one that must be respected and honor. Why would you disrespect choose to disrespect our court and on the contrary expect foreigners to respect our judiciary?
