The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), has commenced the nationwide distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies to more than 600 health facilities across all 15 counties.
Speaking at the regular press briefing held at the Ministry of Information, the Acting Director General of NPHIL, Dr. Sia Water Camanor, said the latest supply-chain operation is intended to address interruptions in access to critical medicines and strengthen the availability of essential health commodities throughout the country.
According to Dr. Camanor, the quarterly distribution began following the submission of supply requests from specialized health programs under the Ministry of Health. The Central Medical Stores is responsible for processing, packaging, and dispatching the commodities to county depots for onward distribution to health facilities.
She explained that the nationwide distribution is being conducted in phases.
The first phase has been completed in several counties, while distribution to Bomi and Nimba counties is ongoing this week.
Distribution to additional counties, including Rivercess, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Montserrado, Bong, Maryland and Margibi, is scheduled to begin next week and continue progressively over the following weeks.
Delivery trucks are being deployed to transport medical commodities to county depots, from where the supplies will be distributed to primary healthcare clinics, hospitals and other health facilities.
The Ministry of Health said the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Liberia's national health supply chain and ensure that lifesaving medicines and medical supplies remain available to healthcare providers and patients.
House of Representatives to Attend African Parliamentary Conference
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives of Liberia has announced plans to participate in the Fourth General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Heads of African Parliaments, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 9 to 11, 2026.
The communication to the House indicated that the delegation's participation was proposed following an invitation from the organizers and subsequent approval by the leadership of the House. The conference will be held at EJS Ministerial Complex, on September 17-18 and is expected to focus on strengthening intra-African trade and investment, parliamentary leadership and cooperation among African legislatures.
