-Urges Duala Residents To Take Charge

The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) is intensifying its cleaning and greening campaign across Monrovia and surrounding communities, while calling on residents of Duala to take greater responsibility for proper waste disposal.

The MCC says keeping Monrovia clean requires collective action from municipal authorities, community leaders, residents, businesses, and waste collection companies.

As part of efforts to address persistent sanitation challenges in Duala, the MCC and township leadership entered into an agreement outlining responsibilities for both sides.

Under the arrangement, the MCC committed to the regular removal of accumulated waste, while residents were expected to subscribe to an approved waste collection service and properly package household and business waste.

However, despite these measures, the MCC says garbage continues to appear along major streets in Duala, creating serious sanitation and environmental concerns.

The City Government is therefore appealing to residents, business owners, and community leaders to honor the agreement and ensure that waste is disposed of through the proper collection system instead of being dumped along roadsides.

The MCC emphasized that sustainable sanitation cannot depend on government intervention alone. Communities must also play their part by adopting responsible waste-management practices.

Improper waste disposal can affect the appearance of the city, block drainage systems, pollute communities, and create conditions that may threaten public health.
