-Edu. Ministry Reaffirms Free Registration

Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, has reaffirmed that registration is free for children attending public schools from Kindergarten through Grade 6 as Liberia begins the 2026/2027 academic year.

In a message welcoming students, teachers, parents and school administrators back to school, Minister Jallah said no child at these levels should be denied access to education because a family cannot afford a registration fee.

She warned that public schools should not replace the government-approved free registration policy with unauthorized charges.

The Minister encouraged parents and guardians to enroll their children and remain actively involved in their education throughout the academic year.

She also urged parents to monitor their children’s attendance, ask about what they are learning, follow their progress and maintain communication with schools.

Dr. Jallah said the Ministry of Education will also strengthen monitoring and accountability across the country to ensure that education policies are implemented at the school and community levels.

She disclosed that county and district education structures, supported by 160 monitoring and evaluation interns, will be deployed to schools and communities to monitor implementation, identify challenges and help address gaps.

The Minister said the monitoring effort is also linked to the Ministry’s Back to My Classroom Campaign, which seeks to return thousands of out-of-school children to the education system.

She emphasized, however, that bringing children back to school is only the first step, stressing the need to create conditions that will enable them to remain in school, participate actively, learn and progress.

Dr. Jallah called on teachers and school administrators to ensure that schools are prepared to receive learners, teachers are present and ready to teach, instructional time is protected and every child is treated with dignity.

She also urged students to take their education seriously by attending classes regularly, reading, asking questions, respecting one another and seeking help when necessary.

According to the Minister, improving Liberia’s education system will not be achieved in one academic year, but consistent efforts by teachers, students, parents and school administrators can contribute to meaningful progress.

Dr. Jallah wished learners, educators, families and school communities a productive 2026/2027 academic year and welcomed students back to school.
