-LWSC’s Intervention Urgent

Just a few months after the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation, LWSC, repaired a major sewage line near the Matilda Newport Junior and senior high school on Newport Street, in downtown Monrovia, another sewage line has burst open, leaking human wastes near a popular supermarket and a tailor shop on the same street.

The environment is polluted and poses threat of an imminent outbreak of airborne diseases.

As the offensive odor permeates the air, the situation has become a matter of hold your nose and pass.

Residents near the supermarket and shoppers are seeking a swift intervention by the LWSC to prevent a health hazard.

A staff of the LWSC, who preferred to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, told this Paper that plans are already underway to repair or replace the burst pipeline.

In the midst of numerous logistical and financial challenges, the LWSC continues to receive commendations for the mass repairs or replacement of burst sewage lines and septic tanks that once leaked human wastes in many of Monrovia’s streets.
