-THE CRY OF THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE'

  LIBERIANS FROM ALL WALKS of life have placed explicit confidence in the creation of the War and Economic Crimes Court of Liberia  because they believe that the court shall offer a long-awaited path to accountability for thousands of victims, ensuring that those bearing the greatest responsibility face legal consequences rather than evading justice.

AS LIBERIANS, WE STRONGLY hold onto the concept that the proposed War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) is critical to Liberia's future because it aims to end the country's years cycle of impunity, prosecute the architects of civil war atrocities, and hold corrupt officials accountable. By doing so, it shall fulfills the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

THE COURT'S IMPORTANCE  focuses on several key areas, such as ending Impunity and Delivering Justice,

FOR DECADES FOLLOWING the brutal civil wars (1979–2003), many individuals alleged to have committed war crimes, massacres, and sexual violence have remained free. The court offers a long-awaited path to accountability for thousands of victims, ensuring that those bearing the greatest responsibility face legal consequences rather than evading justice, Addressing Economic Sabotage, Fulfilling the TRC Recommendations, and

Rebuilding Institutional Trust and Peace, as well as Current Progress.

THE CREATION OF THE court is the wish and  cry of the Liberian people because in plain view, people who have committed atrocities are bragging about their role in our war years.

ADDRESSING ECONOMIC SABOTAGE and the abuse of human rights,  it is our conviction that Cllr. Barbu will never leave any stone unturned to bring war and economic criminals to justice.

WE KNOW THAT BY INCLUDING "economic crimes" in its mandate, the court targets the financial corruption and looting that fueled the conflict and hindered post-war development. This dual focus acknowledges that war and economic crimes are deeply intertwined in the Liberian context, and those that are responsible must and shall bear the full consequences of the law.

THIS IS WHY WE APPRECIATE the President for appointing a renowned and uncompromising lawyer, Cllr. Jallah Barbu for serving as its Executive Director. 

WITH CLLR BARBU SERVING at the arrow head of the court, fulfilling the TRC Recommendations shall become imperative and a done deal

because the court serves to finally execute the mandates recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which investigated the civic conflict that resulted in the deaths of approximately 250,000 people.

THE ONLY THING WE ask the government to do is to demonstrate the much needed political will and logistical support.
