THOUSANDS FEAR EVICTION IN ZAYZAY COMMUNITY

Like was in the case of residents of the 72nd Military Barracks, thousands of residents of the Zayzay Community in Paynesville are expected to be evicted, the National Housing Authority, NHA, has announced.

NHA’s Managing Director, Florence Geegbae, in a press statement said the land belongs to the Liberian Government and is needed for development purpose.

Madam Geegbae made the disclosure on the PUNCH Radio early this week, triggering anxiety amongst the residents she referred to as encroachers.

“That land was acquired by government for development purpose and it is rime to reclaim it,” the NHA MD said.

The development came just a few months after the Government evicted occupants from the 72nd Military Barracks.

Some of the Zayzay Community residents said they have lived on the land for more than two decades.

Meanwhile, the NHA Managing Director has disclosed that the Authority is holding discussions with the residents on what is in the eviction plan.
