NO TO DEVIANT MIGRANTS
WOW! This is the same old age mentality used by Presidents William V. S. Tubman and other former leaders of our nation-state that got this country still walloping in a state of backwardness today. There are so many questions centered around the decision by the Liberian government to accept the integration of deviants of American immigration laws.
The question is how could the government bring strangers in this country to live at the expense of the already struggling tax-payers, when the same government finds it difficult to support her own citizens. How would we feed strangers when our children have not yet eaten? This is an irony. It is always wrong to think of helping someone when you can’t help yourself.
History is meant to educate us in order to have a sober reflection of the past and guide us against challenges of tomorrow by our younger generation. When policymakers in government are making repeated errors our forefathers have made in the past, by championing the freedom of other African nations, when our country lies in destitution, that is what we called pretentious life. I am still wondering what do we, as a nation-state hope to achieve by accepting one thousand, two hundred deportees from America? These deportees have their own short-comings with the American laws that caused their deportation which I am not sure we can cope with as a nation.
Some of them might be criminals (murderers, rapists, fraudsters, drugs traffickers, prostitutes). It is also possible that some could be academically educated and that our society could benefit from their expertise, good, but is it is always important for our government to do due diligence before taking some critical decisions. Our forefathers have played major role in helping people that were in their liberation struggle at the time. Our leaders also used our tax-payers’ money to sponsor some of them in prestigious Universities in Liberia and other parts of the world. At the end of their liberation struggle, no one care to know about the role Liberia had played in the struggle for freedom for humanity and independence.
The Minister of Information, Jerolinmek Piah, has confirmed at a regular press briefing held at the Charles Gbayon conference hall, of the Ministry of Information when he broke the troubling news that the government of Liberia has welcome the arrival of US defiant migrants to Liberia.
What makes it troubling to us is, given the difficult state of our economy, bringing hardcore criminals to Liberia at the expense of government is at the disadvantage of our citizens, and should not be welcomed.
Many Liberians are not happy upon hearing the news and calling on the government to desist putting the interest of strangers above citizen’s interest. Can you imagine Chinese and other nationalities are defying the Liberalization law by doing businesses that are set aside for Liberians. The government is not doing anything to remedy the situation.
