AS THE PRESIDENT OF Liberia, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara B. Nyanti and other Liberians to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the United States of America, to make a case for Liberia as one of the founding members of the UN, Liberians must show gratitude for the effort this government has exerted to have Liberia on the UN Security Council for the second time in history. The last time Liberia had a representation on the UN Security Council was 1961, when Ambassador Nathan Banes, the father of Liberia’s Former Finance Minister, Amb. Nathaniel Banes served that post in the UN.
AS OUR GOVERNMENT MAKE our case, Liberians shall rise, with our handkerchiefs in the air, waving to the Lonestar, with a louder voice of the national anthem in celebration of our leaders who are representing us out there.
WE HAVE EVERY REASON TO celebrate our leaders with the national anthem because its wordings keep the country peaceful, protecting freedom, liberty, and national unity. It honors the ancestors who established the nation and emphasizes the role of faith and collective effort in preserving the country’s sovereignty. It is performed at official government events, schools, sports events, and national holidays, fostering a sense of patriotism among Liberians. We shall sing the National anthem for our leaders as its wordings remind us to know and demonstrate our civil duty of patriotism in salutation of our leaders.
“ALL HAIL, LIBERIA, HAIL!” is often taught in schools to instill national pride in young citizens. Its lyrics are a reminder of Liberia’s unique history as a nation founded by freed slaves from the United States and the importance of upholding freedom and unity for future generations.
THIS ANTHEM REMAINS A SYMBOL of Liberia’s independence, resilience, and national identity.
The anthem was written by Daniel Bashiel Warner, who later became the third President of Liberia, in 1847, the same year Liberia declared its independence. The music was composed by Olmstead Luca, a Liberian musician of the time. “All Hail, Liberia, Hail!” has been the official anthem since its adoption and reflects the nation’s founding principles and aspirations as Africa’s first republic established by freed African-American settlers.
AS THE PRESIDENT MOUNT THE podium at the UNGA to speak to the world on this 24th date of September, 2026, may all Liberians rise in our hearts and spirits to sign the national anthem in salutation of gallantry, foresight, and courage.
