With just days to go before the 69th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Sierra Leone is making final preparations to welcome leaders from across West Africa, as President Julius Maada Bio expressed confidence in the country’s readiness to host one of the region’s most important diplomatic gatherings.
In a message shared after touring the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, the venue for the summit, President Bio said the facility was “buzzing with anticipation” ahead of the arrival of presidents, prime ministers, diplomats and regional officials.
The summit comes at a pivotal moment for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which continues to grapple with political transitions, regional security threats, economic integration, terrorism, and efforts to restore constitutional order in parts of the region.
Reflecting on Sierra Leone’s preparations, President Bio described the conference centre as a symbol of national achievement and expressed optimism about the country’s role as host.
“The Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to host the 69th ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State and Government,” President Bio said.
He added that touring the state-of-the-art facility filled him with pride and underscored Sierra Leone’s readiness to receive regional leaders.

The summit marks another significant diplomatic milestone for Sierra Leone under President Bio’s chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority. It places Freetown at the centre of discussions expected to shape the future direction of regional cooperation, democratic governance, peace and security, trade, and economic development across West Africa.
Hosting the summit also provides Sierra Leone with an opportunity to showcase its growing conference infrastructure and hospitality sector while reinforcing its credentials as a destination capable of staging major continental and international events.
