-Pres. Boakai Tells Senior Officials
Some members of the President’s Cabinet, especially those who find pleasure in boarding a plane any time they feel like, may by now be growling in their hearts in reaction to a new presidential mandate, restricting all members of the Cabinet to only one foreign trip every quarter unless the President gives special permission.
Over the decades, officials of government made numerous unofficial travels abroad with or without the approval of the president and returned to the Country any time of their choice without being held accountable.
If their travels were not family-related, they were health-related or were just about the pleasure they find in foreign travels that do not make any significant contribution to the growth and development of the Country.
“Officials are limited to only one foreign trip every quarter unless I give special permission”, President Joseph Boakai instructed in a recent meeting with members of his cabinet.
The President attributed the slow pace of development under his administration to what he calls the habitual foreign travels of members of his Cabinet, adding that no member of the cabinet will make official travel abroad unless he agrees.
“You people travel too much and need to reduce the excessive foreign travels,” the President emphasized.
According to the new presidential directive, no senior official can travel outside Liberia for government business without the President’s approval.
President Boakai observed that too many officials travel too much to an extent at which it causes problems for cabinet meetings and slows down important government work.
“These foreign trips are expensive and the government needs to focus resources on national development,” Boakai further emphasized.
The President has, under the new policy, urged ministries and agencies to attend international meetings online through platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams whenever possible.
The latest move by the Liberian Leader has generated more reactions on the social media.
Mathew Kpah: “The President travels more than his officials”.
Lewis Dennis: “One example is the FDA MD who refused to sit in his office for one straight hour since he got the job. Even the staff there is not committed to their job”.
“It's like the father telling his son, we as men sticks with one woman but its the other way around in reality”.
“This papay get Sense”.
“Hahaha, fun can't finish in Liberia yaaa, laughing can't finish in Liberia also”.
“Seize their passports”.
“Thank you, Mr. President for this new measure. Small small. As an opposition, I see this as a great step forward in the interest of the land”.
Daniel Pyne:
“Wow, at least one of the sources of the financial crisis is being identified. A problem can only be solved if the factors are determined.”
Delphine Maximore Mensah:
“Yes! Eliminate expenses for flights, hotels and per diems. It's easier to attend multiple meetings per day, even across different time zones.’
Wow. Welcome to realisation from 2001…
No more flying an aircraft to go Lofa.
They are travelling and Barking for free outside there like you.
I profoundly commend you Mr President, but then, let there be an exception for those who reasonably travel for the sake of their constituent to enable them align with international partners for developmental purpose to enhance those districts that are being benighted developmentally
Mr. President, thanks you for having mercy upon the Liberians at this critical time.
Very well said Mr. President, because most of these trips are just for site seeing. Some of your officials have never traveled much or traveled at all and want to use government funds to accomplish their aims personally and not for the country. This move is very welcoming. Before I close, Mr. President, I am sure this decision will or should also affect your travel schedules, though yours is understandable as the president with many invitations coming in from other countries and leaders. It is often said," charity begins at home, and travels abroad".
If you can go by road Guinea na?
We eat to get energy. Thank you H.E president Joseph N. Boakai for this restriction to some officials traveling anyhow for no purpose and achievement.
That's a president taking charge cos he knows the buck stops at his desk. Long life and health Prezo....God will favor you to see your intent for Liberia materialize. WE STAND WITH YOU AND YOUR LEADERSHIP!!!!
As an opposition and a patriotic Liberian, Mr. President I think this is one of the ways forward to developing our mother's land, I must admit.
How about him who traveled more than the planes on RIA
Hahaha....Fish telling Crab wetin you doing inside ley Water.
Do what I say but don't do what I do ooo
That’s what l am talking about! A semblance of nationalism, and patriotism is kicking
in now. One
of the truest hallmarks of a great leader!! When foreign travels are completely abolished, then, it will become the resemblance of nationalism, and patriotism!!
Thank God Liberia is about to experience a glass fence around herself.

Leadership is wisdom.
Please note that your decision is what I called Dervent Leadership.
Lead on but some people will see the unique decision unhealthy for them.
Congratulations.
This is what we had expected long ago. Let them sit down and concentrate on the assignments they supposed perform for the Liberian people. They can even stay right in Liberia and negotiate for and what investors to bring in JOBS for our people. We will not be sycophantic, but rather speak the truths. Kudos, my beloved President for your decision.
We Liberians are our own problem menh our president is trying to give orders that will benefits our country and others people are responding based politics, are we really choosing politics over our country? Why will you want to compared an unnecessary travelling to that of the president?
Did you says "causing problems in Cabinet meetings?"
That’s brilliant Mr. President
