Murder Suspect, Sam Jackson, Behind Bars

Apr 4, 2026 | Politics

Samuel Jackson, former economic advisor to ex-president, Charles Taylor, has finally been incarcerated at the Monrovia Central Prison after findings of a police preliminary investigation linked him to the alleged murder of his South African wife.

In handcuffs, Mr. Jackson, a well articulate politician, economist and a vicious critic of the Boakai regime, was escorted to prison by officers of the Liberia National Police and a court sheriff. The Police had initially declared him a person of interest when circumstances surrounding his wife death became suspicious that there must have been a foul play.

The Ministry Justice through the LNP has charged him with multiple offenses in Tonia Jackson’s death that shocked almost everyone.

A police charge sheet said suspect Jackson, one of the loudest voices on the popular Spoon Talk, was forwarded to court based on the totality of evidence gathered by investigators.

Manslaughter, negligent homicide, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment of another person, were amongst offenses charged with Jackson, the alleged murderer of his own wife.

He was apprehended on Thursday, April 2, 2026, and temporarily placed in police protective custody like an ordinary criminal suspect.

Prior to being formally charged, Jackson was in the custody of his lawyers under a condition that banned him from leaving the country until otherwise.

It all started in early March when the news broke out Mr. Jackson's wife, Toni, had died at their Sinkor residence under questionable circumstances and when the Police arrived on crime scene with a prior notice to him, he rained insults on the officers and accused Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman and his men of invading his privacy while his late wife was naked.

Some Liberians, mainly from the opposition CDC, had also accused the Police and the Executive Branch of government of witch hunt, alleging that suspect Jackson was being intimated and his rights infringed upon because of his critical stance against the Boakai’s administration, an allegation the Government has since denied.

Meanwhile, many civil society actors and rights groups have commended the Police for its professional handling of the matter, while at the same time urging Liberians, specifically husbands and other partners,  to refrain from the use of violence against women, spouses and  children.
