STAND TALL AND RECLAIM OUR INHERITANCE

OUR ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO unfolding courage, foresight and determination been demonstrated by the Minister of Public Works to reclaim our inheritance from the hands of the  locusts.

OUR LANDS, AS A NATION HAVE lost due to lack of leadership direction,  some are even sitting or built houses in the alleys,  thereby making it difficult for other Liberians to have access to their properties.

THE CLAIM BY THE PUBLIC WORKS Minister is not about eminent domain,  no, it is about reclaiming the land intruders have encroached upon for self-engrandizement or benefit.

BEFORE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE Organization of African Unity (OAU) Vilas and the Hotel Africa which is popularly refers to as the OAU Village, that land was owned by the government of the Republic of Liberia, and is still is.

OUR QUESTION TO MR. NELSON ONIYAMA and others is, how do you claim ownership of a well-known public land? What gives them the urge or audacity to think they can intentionally rube us ( Liberians) of our inheritance.

THE LAND IN QUESTION BELONGS TO the people of Liberia. Here is a brief history about the land.

IN 1979, THE HOTEL, THE largest in Liberia, hosted the Organisation of African Unity conference. The conference was led by President William R. Tolbert, Jr. who was the group's chair at the time, just months before he was overthrown by Samuel Doe.

DURING THE LIBERIAN CIVIL WAR, many pilots of Russian and Ukrainian origin stayed at the hotel. In the 1980s, the hotel was managed by a British-Liberian businessman, Michael Doe. On 5th of 1990, the INPFL kidnapped the manager Doe, two Lebanese, and two Liberians at the Hotel Africa, later murdered Michael Doe, throwing him off the 4th floor balcony.

A SOUTH AFRICAN CONSORTIUM HAD plans to invest US$100 million to renovate the historic hotel in time for Liberia's hosting duties of an international women's colloquium in 2009.

IN MAY 2025, THE GOVERNMENT OF LIBERIA declared that it's moving forward to reclaim and redevelop the property. In a post on Facebook on October 9th, 2025, the Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Liberia announced the imminent eviction of Hotel Africa's squatters. This is the path the Minister is trending on, and we encourage all Liberians to stand by the Ministry in claiming this land.

GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE further the names of those grantors of the  land. From when cometh their authority to sell public land. They must be brought to book to avoid the recurrence.
