-A Town Chief amongst the Suspects
The street value of the huge consignment of marijuana is put at $174, 750 Liberian dollars, making it one of the latest significant drug-related operations in River Gee County.
At least three suspects, including a town chief, were arrested following the anti-drug raid in Sheriiiken, upper Tienpo Statutory District.
Amongst those arrested were Sherriken Town Chief, TayeT. Tweah, 63, Shadrach Tweh, 46, and Oretha Sieh, 46. All three suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation at the LDEA’s headquarters in Fish-Town and are expected to be formally charged and forwarded to court for prosecution in accordance with Liberia’s drug laws.
Local authorities said agents of the LDEA River Gee detachment launched the operation mid last week in collaboration a court sheriff assigned at the Gbeapo, Kanweaken City Magisterial Court under a legally approved search and seizure warrant.
Authorities say the latest arrests highlight ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trade and raid Liberia of narcotic substances.
