-Ex-Lone Star Player, Theo Weeks

Another former Liberian soccer star, Theo Weeks, has thrown his hat in the political ring, declaring his intention to contest the Country’s highest seat, the presidency, in 2029 on the ticket of his newly established, Congress of the Liberian People, COLP, just as soccer icon and  former President, George Weah, established the Congress for Democratic Change, CDC.

“We must rise with courage, integrity, and purpose to build the Liberia we all deserve”, Weeks said in a statement.

Mr. Weeks, who refers to himself as the people’s president, said he is reminded of the brave men and women of earlier generations, who he recalled, stood for change, justice, freedom, and national unity.

“They demanded power for the people, liberation for all, and a Liberia where every citizen, across our 15 counties and approximately 27 tribes, could live with dignity and opportunity”, Weeks the statement also quoted him as saying.

The former Lonestar player, according to the statement, urged his fellow Liberians to speak out and stop being silent, while poverty, inequality, and hopelessness continue to affect the entire population.

“Let us stand together, Let us build together, Let us lead together, United, we are one people, one nation, and one future. As we look ahead to 2029, the message is clear: enough is enough. Liberia must move forward. The Congress of the Liberian People (COLP) stands firmly for freedom, justice, equality, and opportunity for all,” the newly established COLP’s presidential aspirant is also quoted as saying.

Theo Lewis Weeks was born on 19th January 1990 and represented the Liberia Lone Star from 2008 to 2016. His platform that includes youth empowerment, economic opportunities, education reform and transparent governance is similar to the platforms of other political leaders and parties.

The COLP’s political leader, who reports say, is critical of older politicians, is campaigning under slogan of establishing a new generation of accountable leadership.
