The twelve men panel jurors at Criminal Court "E" have returned a guilty verdict against an ex-Inter Com Security Guard for rape.
This follows Monday's legal argument between prosecution and defense lawyers with the objective of convincing the jurors for a verdict.
According to our Judicial Correspondent, eleven of the twelve men panel jurors voted to convict defendant Crawford Tokpah for rape, while the other distanced himself from his colleagues' decision with not guilty vote.
Our Judicial Correspondent said the majority verdict
means state lawyers’ evidence adduced in Court was convincing to convict the former Inter Com Security guard, Crawford Tokpah for raping a 12-Year-Old Girl child.
The ex-Private Security Guard was indicted in 2022 for Statutory rape.
Prior to his conviction, he openly confessed committing the act against the teenage girl to avoid full litigation but his confession was set aside by the court to allow State prosecutors prove their claim against defendant Crawford Tokpah.
Meanwhile, Judge Wesseh A. Wesseh who presided over the trial is expected to sentence defendant Crawford Tokpah in couple of days following the pre-sentence investigation report by the Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice
