By Hawa Bility

Twenty-four Liberian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) professionals have left the country for specialized training in Kenya and Ghana as part of efforts to improve technical education and workforce development.

The beneficiaries are traveling under the European Union-funded Youth Rising Project, which is being implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The training, expected to last approximately 18 months, is designed to enhance the participants’ technical expertise, teaching abilities, and professional skills in fields considered important to Liberia’s employment and skills-development needs.

Those traveling to Kenya will receive advanced training in Culinary Arts, Event Management, and Hospitality Operations. Participants assigned to Ghana will specialize in Welding and Fabrication as well as Fashion Design.

Speaking during a pre-departure ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah expressed appreciation to the European Union and UNIDO for supporting Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its human-resource capacity.

Minister Jallah said the success of the program will ultimately depend on how participants use the knowledge and skills gained when they return home.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to share their expertise with fellow instructors and students, noting that their training should contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning within Liberia’s TVET institutions.

Following completion of their respective programs, the trained professionals are expected to be assigned to selected TVET institutions across the country.

The initiative is in line with the Ministry of Education’s efforts to improve technical and vocational education by building the capacity of instructors and increasing the number of qualified professionals available to train young Liberians.

Through the program, the government expects to strengthen pathways for young people to acquire practical skills that can support employment, entrepreneurship, and Liberia’s broader national development agenda.
