A staunch supporter of the ruling Unity Party, George Loobo, has said former President George Weah was the worst Liberian president in history.

“His name will go down in history as the worst president Liberia has ever had,” Mr. Loobo said.

Loobo told reporters in Monrovia that despite his admiration for the former President as a football legend, he dismally performed as a President.

He emphasized that Weah, political leader of the opposition CDC, was politically the worst experience Liberian ever had, but some members of the opposition, particularly members of the former ruling CDC, have said current President, Joseph Boakai, not Weah, is the worst because of his alleged failure to address the needs of the Liberian people. 

Commenting on former President Weah’s response to the arrest of his former Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor, describing it as a political witch hunt, Loobo said the statement by Weah was reckless and ill-advised.

He questioned why Weah and other opposition members describe the arrest of their supporters as political witch-hunting, but do not use the same description when President Joseph Boakai arrests, dismisses or suspends officials of his own government.

Loobo said the opposition should apply the same standard when discussing government’s actions against officials, regardless of their political affiliation.
