Anyone, who keenly followed President Joseph N. Boakai’s cabinet meeting on Thursday, would conclude that Commerce Minister Magdalene Dagoseh, and members of her team, risk dismissal if they do not improve on their performance.

President Boakai has, during the cabinet meeting, warned officials of the Ministry that his government will not tolerate poor performance from an institution responsible to regulate the Country’s business sector.
President Boakai in a stern warning urged the Commerce officials to take their responsibilities seriously, particularly in addressing concerns of business owners across the country.
Boakai said he is frustrated over recurring complaints from the business community, emphasizing that the Ministry of Commerce plays a critical role in protecting local production and strengthening the economy.
The Liberian leader particularly frowned on the importation into the country of chicken feet and others, calling for the need to promote local production.
“We don’t need imported chicken, we can produce our own food,” the President said, emphasizing the need to promote local production rather than relying heavily on imported foods.
Without mincing his words, President Boakai said he will not hesitate to replace officials of government that under-perform.
He told officials of the Ministry of Commerce that if they do not know the importance of the Ministry, they need to know it now.
“If we realize that you are not on top of your game, we will replace you,” the Liberian leader said with emphasis, adding that business people are complaining about the Commerce Ministry.
The government is under increasing pressure from business people, mainly traders and entrepreneurs, demanding stronger regulation, improved support for local businesses and policies that encourage domestic production.
