-Health Workers, Others Make Demands
In the wake of recent announcement by the Liberian Government that it has raised one billion United States Dollars this budget year through domestic revenue, the expectations of the citizens are high, believing with such an unprecedented achievement, social services will improve, salary will increase and monies taken from their salaries in the name of harmonization, will be restored.
The citizens are asking the government to ensure that the one billion domestic revenue boost should have a trigger down effect on their lives, while also reminding the government of its campaign promises.
Also in the wake of the revenue boost, disadvantaged youths, women and men, commonly referred to as Zogoes, are hopeful that their lives will be transformed.
“We don’t want to hear about the regular excuse of no money because the government has raised enough money to take care of us,” a disadvantaged woman told this Paper.
It is reliably learned that some teachers of the Monrovia Consolidation School System (MCSS), MOE Teachers and health workers are demanding increments in their respective monthly salaries.
Unconfirmed reports say they had separately engaged the Ministry of Finance through their respective representatives to augment their salaries beginning with those, who have acquired additional qualifications in their areas of discipline.
Aggrieved members of the groups who begged anonymity for fear of reprisal, have disclosed that they had, in 2024, engaged the government to augment their salaries, but said that engagement yielded no favorable outcome.
They are calling on their colleagues from the Civil Servants Association of Liberia to join them in demanding that the government reverse the salary harmonization as policy and restore their original salaries.
According to them, they are thankful that the government has raised US$1 billion in domestic revenue, adding that it is a welcoming news that would help boost the economy and improve the livelihood of ordinary citizens.
