Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, has challenged Liberian girls and young women to resist societal expectations that limit their ambitions and take charge of their future.
Speaking through a message delivered at the “She Is the Way” girls’ mentorship program in Monrovia on Friday, October 16, Koon stressed that girls should not allow family members, friends, or societal pressures to determine how far they can go in life.
“Never let anyone, not your husband, not your father, not your brother, not your friends, define the boundaries of your ambition,” he said.
The Speaker emphasized that girls have the ability to pursue their dreams and prepare themselves for leadership, urging them to remain committed to education, continuous learning, and personal development.
“Your voice matters. Your dreams are valid, and your possibilities are limitless,” Koon said.
He encouraged participants to develop confidence in their abilities and pursue their goals without being discouraged by the opinions or expectations of others.
“Keep learning. Dream big. Step boldly into the leader you intend to be,” he urged.
Koon also commended the organizers, supporters, and participants for their contributions to the mentorship program, noting that initiatives of this nature provide opportunities for girls and young women to recognize their potential and learn from accomplished women.
The “She Is the Way” one-day girls’ mentorship program was sponsored by the MacDella Cooper Foundation and focused on inspiring and empowering girls and young women through mentorship.
