–A Lady Accused of Selling Pupu Soup
By Our Staff Writer
When Kadiatu Kamara was accused or alleged to have put feces in her soup cooked for the consumption of customers, she was insulted, abused and assaulted by a group of unruly boys believed to be zogos.
It only took a few words from these zogos to cause a scene that led to total humiliation and assault against the lady who has been selling food at the Red Light for many years.
Kadiatu, mother of 9 children who wakes up everyday to earn money to feed her family has since denied the allegations leveled against her.
She has termed such accusations as baseless fabrication intended by jealous and hateful people to destroy her business which she relies on to support her family of 9 children.
As a result of the incident, there were lots of ethnic slurs used against Kadiatu as a person and the Mandingo ethnic group as well as the Muslims in general. In several viral videos shared online, some onlookers are heard making derogatory remarks against the Mandingo people since Kadiatu is a member of the Mandingo ethnic groups.
In the videos that have since gone viral, the moment the zogos started yelling, crowd quickly gathered until she was taken to LNP Zone 9 Police Depot at the Paynesville Red Light.
Since the incident took place on October 5, 2026, it has generated a lot of reactions on social media from different people.
While some think of it as a matter of jealousy, there are others who see it as part of the long standing issue of ethnic bashing of the Mandingoes.
Whenever something happens involving a Mandingo person, it can quickly escalate into ethnic bashing by ordinary people.
While some refined minded people may reserve their comments on such issues, ordinary people cannot exercise any restraint in expressing their opinions with raw emotions. For some of these people, the comments on these viral videos show some people using all kinds ethnic slurs. Some have called her "The Muslim Cook," falsely claiming that she sold "pupu soup" to her customers. Neither the police or the Ministry of Health have released any information to verify such baseless claims.
Since then many have come out to identify with Ms. Kadiatou Kamara. Many think that she is more a victim of the long standing ethnic prejudice in Liberia against the Mandingo ethnic group.
According to Bangalie Trawally, a US based Liberian, "It is unfortunate that the xenophobic behavior in Liberia against the Mandingo tribe is going out of hand.
Yesterday, we heard of something very unthinkable: that someone put human feces in her food to sell to the public.
How possible for God’s sake. Not even a crazy person would eat human feces, let alone a business person selling such in an open market. Let this thing be thoroughly investigated."
According to Samuka Keita, a journalist working at the Smile FM Community Radio in Zwedru, "Just by being a Mandingo or Muslim in this country is like you have already committed a crime. Tribalism is still a major disease in this country.
We haven't learned sense from our 14 years of senseless war. Hatred against the Mandingoes is beyond imagination.
Too sad for a country like Liberia that fought years of senseless war. We still have a long way to go."
A poster on the Teen Liberian Radar wrote the following, "This is exactly why people shouldn’t rush to attack, strip, or harm someone based on rumors before the facts are established.
According to Gary the Blogger, the lady was "lied upon with a fake story." He urged Liberians to be very careful in falsely accusing people.
Besides defending her in words and actions, some have come forward with financial support. Funds have been raised by several bloggers including Ozil Swarays of Mande blog.
Through this medium, over $500.00 was raised.
Through Loubama, a community based talkshow hosted by Sunusi Keita, one thousand dollars was donated by the ABK Group of Company plus $200.00 USD by the host himself.
Other social media personalities who have identified with the lady include popular Liberian comedian Mama Liberia who gave her 5 cartoons of Solo Juice and $150.00 USD.
A group of Fulani businessmen operating at the Red Light donated $500.00 USD, 5 bags of rice and other food items.
There is a growing list of people who are contributing small amounts to Ms. Kadiatu Kamara.
Ms Kamara has expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone who has identified with her at this very difficult moment of her life. She said that the outpouring of support from both the Muslim and non Muslim communities have been very comforting
