Liberian activist, Leroy Archie Ponpon, has accused former President, George Weah and former Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, of allegedly instructing the National Security Agency (NSA) to prevent him from boarding a flight to seek medical treatment abroad.

Ponpon made the allegation on Sunday, while speaking with our reporter on Carey Street in Monrovia, as he discussed his continued efforts to obtain advanced medical treatment following the 2020 self-immolation incident at the Temple of Justice, which left him with severe facial burns.

According to Ponpon, efforts to travel abroad for specialized medical care were allegedly obstructed by security authorities acting on instructions from the former officials.

Contemporary reports following the 2020 incident confirmed that Ponpon had sought advanced medical treatment after sustaining serious burn injuries.

However, the allegations concerning former President Weah, former Mayor Koijee, and the NSA have not been independently verified.

The individuals named in the allegation have not, in this report, provided a response to Ponpon's claims.
