-Opposition Coalition Tells Liberians
Heads of five opposition political parties said the major concern for their collaboration is an uncompromising and robust engagement of the UP -led government, holding it accountable for its decisions and actions.
The opposition leaders signed a communiqué on Sunday at the Sinkor Palace following a closed-door meeting. The parties include the CDC, represented by its political leader, George Manneh Weah, ANC’s Alexander B. Cummings, and
MPC’s Simeon C. M. Freeman. Others include, ULDP’s Jonathan A. Mason, and MOVEE’s Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah.
Speaking after the signing, Cummings said the cooperation is a response to calls from Liberians for opposition leaders to work together and ensure that government policies and programs serve the interests of ordinary citizens.
He emphasized that the initiative is not an electoral alliance and is not currently about deciding, who will become president or vice president in 2029.
MPC’s Political Leader, Simeon Freeman, said the leaders intend to collaborate on national challenges and issues affecting Liberians. He also indicated that they could jointly visit counties to engage citizens.
Former President George Weah similarly stressed that the meeting was not about choosing a presidential or vice-presidential candidate for 2029.
Opposition leaders say that for now, their focus is national issues, cooperation, and government accountability.
