-Assists 2 Jailed Pregnant Women

Former Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor, has, out of compassion, intervened and secured the release from further detention, two pregnant women detained at the Monrovia Central Prison even as she herself remains behind bars.

The former Vice President was recently thrown behind bars at the Central Prison in Monrovia on allegation that she has link with members of a drug cartel from whom she also received money.

Identified as Kebbeh Pewee and Annie Kollie, Howard-Taylor met them in prison at the Central Prison and was moved by their circumstances as pregnant women, a statement from her office said.

Court documents have confirmed that the Montserrado County Criminal Court “A” on August 8, 2026, ordered the release from further detention both women on the appeal of detained former Vice President.

Clerk of court, Hector M. Dolo, granted the release based on a nolle prosequi filed by the prosecution.

Annie Kollie was jailed for manslaughter, while Kebbeh Pewee was also jailed for aggravated assault.

The assistance comes as Madam Howard-Taylor, 63, awaits trial on drug trafficking and related charges.

She was arrested on August 19, 2026, at the Roberts International Airport, while attempting to leave the country and was subsequently remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison on August 25.

Her lawyers had requested she be released on humanitarian grounds or remain at a medical facility due to health concerns, including asthma and high blood pressure, but their request  was denied.

It is not yet known when her trial will begin, but sources said the former first Lady and former Bong County Senator’ incarceration has stirred up emotions among citizens of the County.
