-CHEA Gives L$ 1 MILLION To Market Women
Grand Kru County senatorial aspirant, John Chea, has given to market women in Barclaville City, Grand Kru County, a staggering amount of one million Liberian Dollars as his contribution to help the women augment the efforts of their husbands in meeting the daily needs of their respective families.
Mr. Chea said he has for long been desirous of fostering the doctrine of self-reliance amongst marketers, particularly market women.
Chea emphasized that his greatest wish and determination is to ensure that market women are self-reliant to enable them to help their spouses meet the growing demands of their families.
According to a dispatch from the County, the women are putting measures into place to determine, who are eligible to benefit from the money.
Mr. Chea said the one million Liberian dollars he gave to the women is a grant, not a loan, to be paid back.
According to the senatorial aspirant, the money is intended to relieve women of the daily financial challenges they encounter in addressing the bread and butter issues of their families.
“Women’s livelihood depends on daily trade and should be given support”, Chea said.
He disclosed that many of the marketers continue to face financial hardships, including limited business capital, and rising prices of commodities.
Mr. Chesa further noted that the initiative is expected to help strengthen small businesses, improve access to working capital, and provide temporary economic relief for women, who he said play a vital role in sustaining household incomes and the local economy.
Market women remain among the backbone of Grand Kru County's informal sector, supplying food and essential goods to residents, while also supporting the education and welfare of their families despite the prevailing economic challenges.
It can be recalled that Mr. Chea, in recent months, gave an amount of seventy thousand Liberian Dollars, L$70,000, to Grand Kru County Senior students during the just-ended WAEC examinations. Chea has also donated several bundles of zinc and built community schools..
