Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillion, on his page, called for the need to arrest warehouse owners and arraigned them.
He said the government already have the seized drugs as the solid "Fruit of the Crime" (FOC), identified the persons who kept drugs, know the exact location and premises where the drugs were kept, and further identified the business entity that transported the drugs from where it was kept to the airport. He wondered why there has been no arrest by now.
Appearing before the Senate alongside members of the Joint Security Investigative panel and national security advisers, Police IG, Gregory Coleman defended the pace of the investigation, explaining that the complexity of the case requires careful examination of documentary records, forensic evidence, and intelligence gathered from multiple sources.
The Senator on his page asserts that if the storehouse owners cannot say or refuse to disclose the owner of the seized drugs, and cannot find people who are believed to have brought the drugs at the premises for storage and subsequent exportation via the airport, then the drugs must reasonably belong to the owner or owners of the storehouse. They were the ones in custody of the drugs!
The Senator said, all those link to the 19.2 million drugs should by now be in custody and later charged for Illegal Possession of Cocaine worth 19.2 million United States dollars, Obstruction of Justice and Criminal Conspiracy & Criminal Facilitation, “suspect to court and prosecute them under the full weight of the law”, he maintained.
The Senator maintained, If additional names pop-up later and new discoveries are made during the trial, go after them as well ... to ensure justice and fair play ... without fear or favor!
“There are things that we’re still working on together that are not yet declassified, and discussing them now would compromise everything,” Coleman told senators. “At this point in time, the only thing I can say is that we’ve made significant progress. We are at the stage where we have moved people from being persons of interest to potential suspects who could be charged within a few days.”
The Police Chief further revealed that investigators have expanded the scope of the inquiry beyond individual suspects, confirming that several institutions have also come under scrutiny as authorities work to uncover the full network behind the attempted shipment.
“From the last time we appeared before this body until today, we have made significant progress. We have institutions under suspicion, and we have persons under suspicion at this point in time who will be charged within the coming days,” he said.
