-IG COLEMAN LAMBASTS SENATOR KOGAR

Police Inspector Gregory Coleman has lambasted Senator Samuel Kogar in the Senate chamber when he appeared before the full house of the Liberian Senate to provide status of the on going investigation about the 19.2 million drugs bust.

The Police IG accused the Nimba County Senator of talking loosely when the senator made an inquiry about the quantity of first consignment of drugs that allegedly left the country. This inquiry by the senator had invoked  the Police IG’s  anger, asking the Senator if he has evidence to what he had said or speaking loosely.

The interaction between Senator Kogar and the Police IG has brought mix reactions in the public. With others believing that  the Liberian Senate should understand that they have opened a Pandora's box for appointed officials to go to the House and insult lawmakers who may express contrary opinions.

Political pundits stressed that the Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman owes more than an apology. He should be punished. His conduct toward Senator Samuel Kogar before the Liberian Senate was disrespectful and unbecoming of the head of the Liberia National Police. Challenging a sitting senator by saying he was "talking loosely" during an official hearing crossed the line of professional decorum.

An apology, after being directed by the Senate, should not have been the end of the matter. If this exchange had involved Senator Dillon or another senator aligned with the ruling Unity Party, it wouldn't have stopped at an apology, some Liberian expressed their feelings, they noted.

The apparent reluctance to impose any disciplinary action against the police IG in Senator Kogar's case may have come from the fact that things appear not to be okay between Senator Kogar and Vice President Koung, which raises legitimate concerns about equal treatment, they concluded.
