-A CALL FOR INDEPENDENT PROBE

DRUG TRADE POSES SERIOUS and significant threats to national sovereignty, affecting the security, integrity of the state and the wellbeing of the citizens. It undermines governments in several ways such as breed corruption, economic destabilization, stigmatization and disruption of supply of money and exchange of trade.

THE NARCOTIC ALSO THREATENS individually through acts of terrorism, subversion and banditry, as traffickers reacts to stricter law enforcement measures with new trafficking routes and acts of violence. The support of local population in drugs invested area further complicates the situation, putting powers at the mercy of traffickers.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE calling on the government of Liberia to attach greater relevance and importance to the investigation process of the 19.2 million drugs bursts. This drugs saga must be handled with care and almost transparency and courage to bring to book those responsible.

IT IS CONSEQUENTIAL FROM a global stand point. No one should think that this 19.2 million drug burst is limited to only Liberia. The international community is watching to see how Liberia handles the drugs situation.

IF THIS DRUGS INVESTIGATION by the government of Liberia is not handled to the satisfaction of Liberians and global anti-drugs campaigners, it is possible that they (Liberian) could petition the international community to subject Liberia to global investigation.

GOVERNMENT DELAY TO effectively communicate with the citizens as it relates to the ongoing drugs investigation is raising fear and suspicion, suggesting that there would be “business-as -usual”.

THE IMAGE OF THIS nation is what matters. Our failure as a nation-state to do the needful could lead to serious image damage disaster of our country. This is why we are asking the Minister of Justice to do all you can to invite other civil society organizations on board the investigation in order to add little bit of independent flavor in the investigation process.
